The adventure begins early in the morning as your trek guide picks you up from your accommodation. A taxi ride takes you to the bus terminal, where you board a bus to Besisahar. The scenic journey along the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway leads to Dumre, where you turn towards Besi Sahar, following the Marsyangdi River. After reaching Besisahar, you switch to a shared local jeep for the rough off-road journey to Chame, your destination for the night. The day involves significant travel, with a total driving time of approximately 10-12 hours and an altitude of 2,670 meters (8,760 feet).
After breakfast, you start your hike towards Pisang. The trek begins with views of the Lamjung Himal and continues through picturesque apple orchards and rocky terrain. The valley transforms from V-shaped to U-shaped as you approach Pisang, where you will find a long Mani Wall. The trek today covers 15-18 kilometers (9.3-11.2 miles) and lasts 6-7 hours, with a maximum altitude of 3,200 meters (10,499 feet).
The trek today features a steep ascent from Pisang, rewarding you with spectacular views of the Manang Valley and Tilicho Peak. After passing Humde, you arrive at a plateau with Annapurna III towering above. The path takes you through Mungji and Braga, known for its monastery, before arriving in Manang, where you will spend the night. Expect a trek of 15-20 kilometers (9.3-12.4 miles) over 7-8 hours, reaching a maximum altitude of 3,540 meters (11,614 feet).
This day is dedicated to acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to the altitude. You can engage in optional hikes or bike rides around Manang, or visit local attractions like the Himalayan Rescue Association support station. The activities are flexible, with walking distances varying, but they will help prepare you for the challenges ahead.
The trek resumes from Manang to Yak Kharka, which involves a steady ascent. The route takes you through Gunsang, offering stunning mountain views. Although the distance covered is relatively short at 10-12 kilometers (6.2-7.5 miles), the altitude of 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) can make this climb tiring, requiring a careful and gradual pace.
Starting with breakfast in Yak Kharka, today’s hike leads you to Thorong Phedi. The journey begins with a moderate climb and involves crossing the headwaters of the Marsyangdi River. After navigating a narrow trail, you will arrive at Thorong Phedi, where you’ll rest at a tea house for the night. This trek covers approximately 7-8 kilometers (4.3-5 miles) over 3-4 hours, reaching an altitude of 4,450 meters (14,600 feet).
This challenging day begins with an early start as you set out to conquer Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters/17,769 feet). The ascent takes about four hours, rewarding you with breathtaking views from the pass. The subsequent descent to Muktinath is a steep 1,600-meter drop, leading you to this sacred site. Expect a trek of 14-16 kilometers (8.7-9.9 miles) over 8-9 hours.
On your final day, you rise early for a visit to the Muktinath temple. Following your visit and breakfast, you’ll embark on a long drive back to Pokhara, passing through Jomsom, Tatopani, and Beni along the Kali Gandaki River. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you check into your hotel and can explore the vibrant Lakeside area. This day includes a drive of about 8-9 hours, covering a distance of 160 kilometers (99 miles) and culminating your memorable journey.
