How to Get a Nepal Tourist Visa
You can obtain a tourist visa for Nepal upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, or at the following border entry points:
– Kakadvitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Gaddachowki on the Nepal-India border
– Kodari on the Nepal-China border
Alternatively, you can get a visa at the nearest Nepal Embassy or Diplomatic Mission in your home country. For visa renewal, visit the Department of Immigration at Kalikasthan, Kathmandu.
To apply for a visa, you’ll need:
– A valid passport
– One passport-size photo with a light background (the size is not specified by the Immigration Department)
Visa fees must be paid in cash in the following currencies:
– Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar, and Japanese Yen
Credit cards, Indian currency, and Nepali currency are not accepted for visa fee payments.
Tourist Visa Options
– 15 days, multiple entry: US$ 30 or equivalent convertible currency
– 30 days, multiple entry: US$ 50 or equivalent convertible currency
– 90 days, multiple entry: US$ 125 or equivalent convertible currency
Gratis (Free) Visa
A gratis visa (free) is available for nationals of South Asian countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) for their first visit in a visa year (January to December) for up to 30 days. Visa extensions can be made at the Immigration Department for the fees mentioned above.
Visa Requirements for Indian Nationals
Indian nationals do not require a visa to enter Nepal. However, they must present one of the following documents as proof of identity:
– Passport
– Driving License with photo
– Photo Identity Card issued by a Government Agency
– Ration Card with photo
– Election Commission Card with photo
– Identity Card issued by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu
– Identity Card with photo issued by a Sub-Divisional Magistrate or any other official above their rank
Visa for Nationals from Specific Countries
Citizens of the following countries must obtain a visa from Nepal Embassies or Diplomatic Missions in their respective countries, as visas are not issued upon arrival:
– Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, and Afghanistan
Visa Extension
Tourists are allowed to stay in Nepal for a maximum of 150 days within a visa year (January 1 to December 31). You can apply for a visa extension at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu.
